    Hema Malini – After gaining tremendous success as an actress, Hema Malnini decided to direct a movie in 1992. The film was, Dil Ashna Hai, which was the first film signed by Shah Rukh Khan in Bollywood. Even with some of the biggest Bollywood stars of that time in the movie, the film failed at the box office and Hema Malini did not direct another film again.

    Nandita Das – A very talented actress who has done some really imprsseive films also turned into a bold director in 2008 when she directed Firaaq, as film based on the Gujarat Riots of 2002. She won not just the National Awards but also a lot of international recognition for it.

    Revathi – The multi lingual actress have done films in hindi as well as many regional cinemas. She turned to directing with the cross over film Mitr: My Friend in 2002 for which she won a national award. She also directed the Bollywood film Phir Milenge in 2004.
