5 Actresses Who Became Bollywood Directors!

Bollywood has some exceptionally talented ladies who are not just making us proud in India but across the globe and it is not just in the acting department! While there is no lack of actors donning the director’s hat, there are only female actresses who chose to direct movie even with so many of them desirous to do so. But those who did have done wonders in their own right and we are exceptionally proud of them. Here is a list of actresses who became director in Bollywood.

Pooja Bhatt – After acting for nearly 2 decades in Bollywood films, Pooja finally turned to direction and in 2003 she directed the film Paap. She never went back to acting and continued to direct film like, Holiday (2006), Dhokha (2007), Kajraare (2010) and Jism 2 in (2012).

Hema Malini – After gaining tremendous success as an actress, Hema Malnini decided to direct a movie in 1992. The film was, Dil Ashna Hai, which was the first film signed by Shah Rukh Khan in Bollywood. Even with some of the biggest Bollywood stars of that time in the movie, the film failed at the box office and Hema Malini did not direct another film again.

Nandita Das – A very talented actress who has done some really imprsseive films also turned into a bold director in 2008 when she directed Firaaq, as film based on the Gujarat Riots of 2002. She won not just the National Awards but also a lot of international recognition for it.

Aparna Sen – A very well known Bengali actress she directed some very renowned cross over films six of which have been National Award winners. She is also internationally acclaimed for her films like 36 Chowringhee Lane and 15 Park Avenue.

Revathi – The multi lingual actress have done films in hindi as well as many regional cinemas. She turned to directing with the cross over film Mitr: My Friend in 2002 for which she won a national award. She also directed the Bollywood film Phir Milenge in 2004.
