With most commercial films chasing this target there are a few Bollywood films that collected 100 crores even before they hit the theatres. Yes, that’s right! Some mega starrer movies sold their satellite rights, music and overseas distribution rights for big bucks and were in profits much before their theatrical release.     PK – The Aamir Khan starrer film broke several box office records after release but had started doing wonders much before it actually released.  The satellite rights of the film were sold for a whopping 85 crores and the music rights went out for another 15 crores making the film earn 100 crores before release.

    Jai Ho – According to a few trade analysts Salman Khan’s Jai Ho made its 100 crores before it reached the audiences. The distribution rights of the film were sold to Eros International for Rs. 120 crores and the satellite rights of the film were sold out for another 55 crores and the music rights went out for 13 crores.

    Dilwale – The Shah Rukh and Kajol starrer may have failed to impress at the box office but the with the anticipation around it, the film made a lot of money prior to its release. The film earned 60 crores in satellite rights and 19 crores in music rights. The film earned 170 crores in distribution rights.

    M.S. Dhoni – The Untold Story – The film based on the real life journey of  Indian Cricket Team’s skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni was much awaited and it fetched the producers 100 crores much before the film’s release.  The satellite rights of the film were sold for 55 crores and the music and overseas distribution rights were a total of 15 crores. The film got Rs. 20 crores from its marketing tie ups with popular brands and the remake rights of the film were sold to a Hollywood production house for Rs. 10 crores.

    Kaabil – The theatrical rights of the film went out for 58 crores both including domestic and overseas. The satellite rights went out for 50 crores and the music rights were sold off for another 8 crores. The film made 116 crores through the sale of these rights and had a production budget of 50 crores.

    Jab Harry Met Sejal – The Shah Rukh and Anushka starrer sold its overseas and domestic distribution rights for over 100 crores. This perhaps made up for the otherwise poor business that the film actually did.

    There are other major films like Dangal and Dhoom 3 that sold their rights at whooping prices. Dangal’s satellite rights went out for 75 crores to Zee and Dhoom3’s satellite rights went out for 60 crores! There is no exact figure on remaining transactions but they too certainly made more than 100 crores before release.
