11 Movies Released On Diwali But Flopped Drastically At Box Office

As much as we try and create a hype around the golden space of Diwali to guarantee a hit for Bollywood movies, the curse of the failure never loosens its hold. We keep seeing producers/distributors fighting hard to book Diwali slots for their movies but as harsh as it may sound, end of the day only ‘content’ matters.

While we cannot deny the fact that the festive period of Diwali has given Bollywood more box office blockbusters than flops, it cannot be denied that most Diwali clashes have ended up with one winner and one loser. Today, we are going to talk about the failures.

Here are 11 Bollywood movies that couldn’t shine bright despite being Diwali releases since 2000:

Mission Kashmir (2000)

Clashing with the Yashraj’s romance drama Mohabbatein, the Hrithik Roshan-Sanjay Dutt starrer terrorism drama couldn’t hold well despite a good start and ended up as a flop.

Jeena Sirf Mere Liye (2002)

Having made a successful film like Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai an year ago, the Jodi of Tushhar Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor couldn’t recreate the same magic as this romantic drama flopped bigtime.

Pinjar (2003)

As good as it was content wise, the film just couldn’t pull any wonders at box office since audiences were too much involved in mainstream dramas like Baghban and Kal Ho Naa Ho.

Kyon Ki (2005)

The Diwali of 2005 saw as many as three films clashing and two out of them crashing. While John and Akshay starrer Garam Masala became a box office hit, Salman and Kareena’s tragic drama Kyon Ki couldn’t sustain.

Shaadi No. 1 (2005)

The other comedy by David Dhawan Shaadi No. 1 was also a box office flop owing to its trashy content.

Jaan-E-Mann (2006)

The Diwali of 2006 was a high profile affair as films Shah Rukh, Salman, Akshay, Abhishek and Aishwarya were in the fray. Despite drawing some audiences initially, the Salman Khan-Akshay Kumar starrer Jaan-E-Mann ended up yielding huge losses to the producer.

Umrao Jaan (2006)

On the other hand, the JP Dutta directorial remake Umrao Jaan was too dismal to say the least.

Saawariya (2007)

Clashing with SRK’s Om Shanti Om, this Sanjay Leela Bhansali was the first choice of a lot of viewers but it drastically fell owing to its poor content. The film is ranked as one of Diwali’s biggest flops.

Blue (2009)

The only film that worked that Diwali was Rohit Shetty’s All The Best. While the high budget action film Blue entailed heavy losses, it was surprising how this film ended as one of the biggest failures of the year.

Main Aur Mrs. Khanna (2009)

On the other, the jodi of Salman-Kareen tanked for the second time on Diwali

Action Replay (2010)

A lot as expected out of this comedy but the bizarre execution of this film ended up as a surprise flop. The Jodi of Akshay Kumar and Aishwarya Rai couldn’t create any magic at box office and ended up losing to Golmaal 3.
