Box Office Report: Dear Zindagi Is SRK's Lowest Opener Since 2011 But It Is Still A Hit

Box Office Report: Dear Zindagi Is SRK's Lowest Opener Since 2011 But It Is Still A Hit

Dear Zindagi has defied all expectations at the box-office...

Like said before, for a lot of reasons, Dear Zindagi is one of the most anticipated movies of the year. There is the Alia Bhatt-Shah Rukh Khan non-romantic yet potentially awesome chemistry. Also, it marks Gauri Shinde's return, who took the world by storm with her debut English Vinglish. In addition, there are plethora of other talented actors, an interesting plot and Amit Trivedi's brave, new soundtrack.

And now the film has released and got decent reviews, attention turns to the box office, which is ever-so important to the film's legacy.

It is also worth noting that the movie is especially important for Shah Rukh Khan, whose passion project Fan (another movie that got decent reviews) failed at the box-office earlier this year. But unlike FanDear Zindagi isn't hamstrung by a big budget. So, in turn, the movie doesn't need to earn that much to be called a hit.

But what's really interesting is that the the movie's strong showing at the BO has already made it a hit.

According to leading trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the movie, which was made on a budget of Rs. 30 budget, has already crossed that barrier.

The movie's Rs. 32.50 crore gross is the tenth highest opening of 2016. What's fascinating is that at a time when there has been a sharp decline in movie-going audience, Dear Zindagi has earned very well. Only a couple of weeks back, we saw how the policy potentially ruined Rock On 2 at the BO. As per stats, the movie is just behind Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, which opened on Diwali weekend and before the demonetisation move.

And it's not only in India that movie has done well but in fact, the movie has earned nearly as much in foreign markets as well.

All in all, it's another hit for Alia Bhatt and a much needed success for SRK.
