Box Office: Madaari Stays Low, Shows Growth Through The Weekend

Taking on the mighty Kabali would have taken a concrete conviction for makers of Irrfan Khan’s Madaari. While the film virtually did not have any shows down south, the Kabali craze overshadowed the film in regions of North India as well.

The Irrfan Khan starrer wasn’t propped up as a heavily marketed product and it anyway had to rely on its content, however it was still expected for the film to open better than it did. Directed by Nishikant Kamath, the film opened to 2.25 crores on Friday. While the numbers were quite low given the kind of element it had, it showed some signs of growth and made 3.50 crores on Saturday. Sunday too, wasn’t very encouraging and stayed in the range of 4-5 crores*.

While Madaari expected to dominate most regions of the country excluding South, the tremendous craze of Kabali made theaters put more shows of the Rajinikanth starrer. At a time when Kabali made a business of almost 20 crores in North India, Madaari could barely touch 10 all across the country. The film will now have to rely on weekdays to ensure it doesn’t entail losses to its distributors.

Madaari had quite an enriched credit to itself given the likes of Irrfan Khan and Nishikant Kamath involved. However, the film could only engage people in parts and mostly came out as an average entertainer. With biggies lined up for the coming week, Madaari has less chances of staying afloat the whole time.
