Will Baahubali 2 Become The First Indian Film To Cross Rs 1000 cr At The BO?

SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali: The Conclusion is shaping up to be the biggest Indian film ever produced. The film has already made Rs 500 crore in pre-release deals, and is predicted to open with Rs 85 crore on April 28.

A DNA report, quoting an exhibitor said, “Baahubali 2 will be huge and it will cross everyone’s expectations. We can be sure of it once the advance booking starts but if I’m not wrong, it will bring in at least Rs 85 crore plus gross in its first day itself. The film is mainly shot in Telugu which is a huge market and given the craze in Hyderabad, the film will easily collect over Rs 25-27 crore from the region. That means it will have a gross figure of around Rs 35 crore alone from its Telugu version itself.”

The film is being released in a record-breaking 6000 screens in India, leaving little room for competition. In comparison, the first film was released in around 4000 screens in 2015.

DNA’s source added, ““Then, there is the Hindi version and Baahubali is a pan-India catering film. The Hindi dubbed version alone will mostly bring in another Rs 24-25 crore nett alone. The gross figures will be around Rs 32-33 crore alone from its Hindi version. The film will gross another Rs 20-22 crore from its other dubbed versions - Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada. In short, it will definitely see a gross opening of around Rs 85-90 crore on day 1 and it will definitely turn out to be the biggest opener in Indian cinema.”

The first movie opened with Rs 75 crore on its opening day and went on to gross Rs 650 crore by the end of its run. If a similar multiplier were to be applied, Baahubali 2 will end up with Rs 750 crore in theatrical earnings. This, combined with the Rs 500 pre-release profits from the sale of theatrical rights (reported by industry analyst Ramesh Bala), could help it become the first film to cross Rs 1000 crore at the BO.
