Demonetization Effect: Will All Biggies Of 2016 Get Pushed To 2017?

Demonetization has undeniably has hit everyone hard and our film industry hasn’t gotten away with it either. While Rock On 2 already had a lot going against it owing to its poor content, the demonetization hit the final nail in the coffin. As much as the producers wanted to be believe it to be a passing shower, the truth is that it’s a solid storm. Now, our censor board Chief Mr. Pahlaj Nihalani has suggested something to our Bollywood producers and we don’t know what to make of it.

According to reports, the controversial figure has asked the producers of all upcoming biggies like Dear Zindagi, Kahaani 2, Befikre and Dangal to shift their movies by sometime and release their film in 2017. Mr. Pahlaj believes the effect of demonetization is looming high on the industry and the makers may entail heavy losses if they continue to release their films this year. The Censor Chief quoted to a leading magazine, “After cash resources dried up, particularly since 10th November, it has been noted most of the recent ticket bookings for cinema at multiplexes are being made via online platforms. However, since a very small amount of the cinema patrons have been using online ticketing platforms for buying cinema tickets, sales via online ticketing sites do not account for more than 20-30 per of capacities in multiplexes. In single screen theatres where attendance is most dependent on cash sales, the daily gross collections have reduced drastically.”

Yes, he makes sense! However little does he realize that it’s virtually impossible to shift a film by months since the promotional build up cannot be made. Also the cost of marketing of a film is too high and that makes a dent in the proceedings as well. We are sure all concerned people around this share the same worry and are looking for ways to tackle it. However, the only way out visible for them is if the situation smoothens in a few days.
