2015 was one hell of a year for Bollywood!

You can actually call it one of the golden years of the Indian film industry. While some producers might be still counting the moolahs that their blockbuster films raked, small budget filmmakers also have a reason to bask in their glory.

So, yeah most of us wait if the films we loved or hated make it to the award winning lists of our country’s most ‘honest’ award ceremonies.

    Best Film

Bajirao Mastani swept so many awards this season, that the actors and the production house can make a new showcase to display them. The film has a rating of 3.8/5 on our website, which is the highest among all the films of 2015, and an India Box –Office collection of 167.3 Cr. While Bajrangi Bhaijaan is much ahead in terms of BO collection from Bajirao, its audience rating is only 3.4/5.

Most Popular Actor versus Best Actor

Ranveer Singh swept away three best actor awards this year, Salman Khan won only one at the Big Star Entertainment Awards. But, seems like Bhai is again leading the race in terms of social media popularity! With a whopping 47.6 Million followers, if not the favourite of award functions, Salman Khan is at least the social media favourite, which is almost 5 times that of Ranveer Singh’s social media following.

Varun Dhawan didn’t take home many trophies, but the actor was nominated among the legends on his times for his memorable performance in Sriram Raghavan’s Badlapur. Interestingly, Shahid Kapoor was more in news for his wedding than for his performance in Shaandaar. The Jab We Met actor was much ahead of Varun in terms of social media buzz, as he bade goodbye to bachelorhood.

SRK trailed behind in both BO and movie ratings (with no impact on his social media fandom) thanks to Rohit Shetty’s failed attempt to bring back the iconic DDLJ Jodi together!

Silver lining for small budget films

Now, here comes the twist in the tale. With Khans and a new promising actor have taken over Bollywood, small budget films like Piku, Badlapur, Dum Laga Ke Haisha and Tanu Weds Manu 2 did not suffer in silence.

All these four films have a great rating of 3.6/5 and they’re clearly ahead of Bajrangi Bhaijaan, out of which, only Piku won an award at the Big Star Entertainment Awards. But most of them won in technical and popular categories including music, songs, lyrics and best debuts. Bhumi Pednekar from Dum Laga Ke Haisha has clearly left her mark in her debut!

Kajol has been dethroned as the Best Actress

It will not come as a surprise to both Kajol and Deepika’s fans that the latter took away all the Best Actress awards for Piku and Bajirao with her mindboggling social media popularity and excellent movie ratings. She won Big Star Entertainment, Screen, Filmfare and Stardust in a row! Priyanka Chopra was the second most appreciated and popular actress on social media for her performance in Bajirao Mastani. However, Kajol’s comeback got a lukewarm response from the audience and cold shoulder from the award functions.

So the award for wholesome entertainment definitely goes to Salman Khan, with not just Bajrangi but Prem Ratan Dhan Payo which made him rake more than 500 Cr in India itself with above average rating of 3 stars.

Deepika Padukone is in no mood to move an inch from the top spot of actresses, be it BO collections or critical acclaim. She is the reigning queen right now!

Not to forget movies like Tamasha, NH10, and Margarita With A Straw which also made a place in the hearts of audiences with an average rating of 3.3 stars. Amidst the entire hustle bustle in Bollywood, 2015, also saw incredible movies like Baby and Manjhi which had great ratings of 3.5 and 3.4 stars respectively.  2015 also proved that promising actors like Varun Dhawan have better potential in solo films rather than multi-starrers like Dilwale, both in terms of ratings and BO collections.

While not every hit movie had its moment at these awards, almost every film had something to take away this time. In short, sabka dil rakh liya is baar!
