Mouni Roy Couldn't Be Happier On Getting Her Big Bollywood Break Opposite Akshay Kumar In Gold!

After a successful career on television, Mouni Roy is going to make her Bollywood debut with Akshay Kumar-starrer, Gold. The actor is thrilled to have signed the film, which is produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani and directed by Reema Kagti. In an interview with HT Café, Mouni about how the news took time to sink in and why she will continue doing TV serials.

Congratulations on bagging a film with Akshay Kumar. How does it feel?

I couldn’t be happier. I couldn’t get luckier. It couldn’t have been better. This is as good as it gets. I am so excited to be part of Gold, a film starring Akshay sir. I had auditioned and had been shortlisted for a lot of other films, but nothing worked out. I believe everything happens for a reason and I guess this was supposed to be my start.

How did you react when you heard you had got this film?

For the longest time, I didn’t know if I would be doing it or not. Two months after the audition, I got a text from the casting representative saying I was shortlisted. Eventually, it worked out and I was very happy. I am a person of disbelief and confusion and nerves, so good news takes a lot of time to sink in.

You’ve had a successful television career, but were films always on your mind?

I am not ambitious at all, but I am passionate about my work. Who doesn’t want to do better in life? When you’re an actor, you want better roles and better projects. You want to put your mind to use and push yourself creatively. Films give you the opportunity to play different characters, unlike in daily soaps, where you play one role for a long time. Having said that, TV has given me my life. It is my bread and butter. It is my place of worship, so I am forever indebted to the television industry and Ekta ma’am (Kapoor; producer).

Will you continue to work on television?

Of course. Like I said, TV has given me my life. I want to do films because I love cinema and love what I do. I want to explore what I can do in terms picking up a character and living it to the fullest in a film. But yes, TV has given me everything. I want to stick with good old soaps.
