But most people don’t know how it started. So, Aditya Chopra and Shah Rukh Khan spotted Rani while looking for a replacement for Twinkle Khanna in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. A role, (Tina) which Karan had written for Twinkle, got rejected by Mrs. Funnybones because the character dies in the movie. Rani was only a few films old after Raja Ki Ayegi Baraat and Mehendi, and she wasn’t expecting this big break!

It was Karan who rang her door bell and looked for someone when the door opened, only to find a short heighted girl with no makeup, which was Rani. This ace actress who has literally reigned the movies for quite a while, never looked back after Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.

She initially rejected Shaad Ali’s Saathiya, because she was being written off by critics, but Adi convinced her and promised that he will face the flack if the movie doesn’t do well. Bagging all the big awards including Filmfare for her supporting role in the film, Rani suddenly became a quintessential Yash Raj heroine.

Ever since, she did Mujhse Dosti Karoge, Saathiya, Bunty Aur Babli, Hum Tum, Laga Chunari Mein Daag, Tara Rum Pum etc.

Meanwhile, the closeness between the Yash Raj scion and her increased, and there were rumours of them dating each other, which Rani actually denies. She also organised the premiere of Yash Chopra's last film, Jab Tak Hai Jaan in memory and she was really close to him. Unfortunately he couldn't see her getting married to his son.

Then one fine Diwali the duo and their families were spotted celebrating together. Next we remember is hearing of their wedding which was announced on Twitter and later confirmed by  Yash Raj on 21 April , 2014.
