Padmaavat Leads To Not Just Padman But 6 Other Bollywood Films Shifting Their Release Dates Too
Padmaavat has finally released and Bollywood must indeed be heaving a sigh of relief. After all, there has been so much ruckus created amongst countless other Bollywood releases due to the uncertainty that had prevailed around the ultimate arrival of the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film.
Let's take a look at how numerous films had to change their plans due to Padmaavat.
Fukrey Returns - 8th December
This is actually the only film that benefited from the delay of Padmaavat. It was going through a certain change in plans since Padmaavat was earlier slated for 1st December release. However, once word spread that the Deepika Padukone-Ranveer Singh-Shahid Kapoor film would be stepping into 2018, Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani decided to make the most of it. Result? The film had a clear run till Tiger Zinda Hai.
PadMan - 9th February
The film was always slated for Republic Day weekend arrival. In fact even after Padmaavat announced its decision to arrive on the same weekend, the film kept its stance intact. However, later when Sanjay Leela Bhansali personally requested Akshay Kumar to allow Padmaavat a clear release, the superstar decided to move the film ahead to 9th February in an act of solidarity. It now has to extend its promotion further.
Aiyaary - 9th February
In the midst of biggies like Padmaavat and PadMan, it was Aiyaary which had to pick and choose its opponent for the clash. It took a safer (and wiser) route by opting out of Republic Day weekend arrival and picked 9th February. However, now it is again finding itself in a clash situation since PadMan has moved ahead to the same date. Result? PadMan v/s Aiyaary clash is now inevitable despite efforts made to avoid it.
Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety - 23rd February
Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety was earlier slated to release on 9th February since that would have given it an advantage of footfalls from the youth on Valentine's Day [14th February]. However, once it realized that PadMan, as well as Aiyaary, were releasing on 9th February due to confirmed plans of Padmaavat, it pronto decided to move ahead by a couple of weeks. A good decision as the makers didn't let ego in way of commerce.
Parmanu - The Story of Pokhran - 2nd March
The John Abraham starrer had its eyes set on 23rd February. Even though this translated into a clash with Rani Mukherjee's Hichki, the makers were not worried (and rightly so) since both films belong to a different genre. However, with Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety getting pushed to this date, there was too much of a crowd that had started gathering. The film has now been pushed ahead by a week, which makes sense.
Pari - 2nd March
The Anushka Sharma starrer was earlier slated for release in February but then with too much of re-jig around the release of other films (a Padmaavat effect of course), it decided to arrive on 2nd March. One waits to see though if this date is eventually met since Parmanu has been confirmed for 2nd March too. Considering the fact that both films are backed by KriArj, it is unlikely that the two films will clash.
Drive - Date to be decided
Sushant Singh Rajput and Jacqueline Fernandez have come together for Karan Johar and Tarun Mansukhani's Drive. The film was aiming for Holi release of 2nd March. However, with quite a few films from January and February getting pushed, Drive would be requiring a 'drive ahead' as well. It is also being said certain post-production activities need to be completed and hence makers require more time.
