When 3 Idiots became the first film in the history of Bollywood to cross the 100 crore mark overseas back in 2009, it was a new dimension to the business of cinema. Interestingly, the same month of the same year Hollywood also came out with its highest grosser as well. The movie was filmmaker James Cameron’s Avatar. While Bollywood found its glory in touching a threshold it had never even dreamt of, Hollywood’s achievement was bizarrely unbelievable.

In all of those figures that box office found itself busy calculating, Avatar had done almost 50 times the business of 3 Idiots. Yes you read right, 40 TIMES!

While we are proudly marching towards triumphing several milestones with each passing year, the highest grossers of Bollywood seem distantly minute when compared to the top earners of Hollywood.  Here’s some data to second our point:
