Gully Boy’s ‘Azadi’ Unfolds Film’s Several Other Layers We Hadn’t Yet Seen

One of our top picks right from when Gully Boy’s jukebox was out, Azadi has finally got the visuals it needed. The extremely evocative and honestly catchy track further reiterates that Gully Boy is a film of many layers. From taking the highlight from Murad the ‘hip-hop’ sensation to Murad the struggler, the Divine rap feels like one solid hit in the gut.

While most of its lyric suggests it has no consequential connect with film’s narration, it still however is a worthy addition to the soundtrack. The initial visuals do sort of give us a better understanding of Kalki’s character that viewers haven’t been fully introduced to yet. Her vandalizing acts were already shown in the trailer but the ones shown here give us a slight hint of her character in Shaitan.

Yes, the song also introduces us to another major character in the film and that’s Mumbai!

While the trailer had only hinted at Murad and friends being carjackers, the Azadi track further reaffirms that.

But all of this isn’t deflecting Murad from chasing his dreams, is it?

Another vital revelation the song probably hints at is Murad taking his mom away with him who had earlier been a victim of domestic abuse as shown in the trailer.

And yes, their romance is only getting cuter with each new release.

While what makes Azadi a real catchy track is its lyric, rhythm and its scathe, the track is a meaningful extension of film’s trailer and everything else that we had been expecting from Gully Boy. The new depths it has attached to its two main characters other than Kalki, only stresses one thing over and over again, Gully Boy will be an experience of many layers.
