Top Hollywood stars continue to have successful careers in both TV and movies and juggle the projects every year.
Once a TV show becomes a hit and develops a loyal fanbase, it runs for multiple seasons and if the supporting characters are strong enough which could make for great backstories, the makers and channels greenlit a spin-off. Joey: Joey was created by the creators of Friends and the series aired after the finale of Friends aired. According to the makers, Joey was the least developed character on Friends and they wanted to give him his own show. Though the series consistently dropped in rankings and was criticized for lazy writing, unfunny jokes, and Matt Leblanc seemed to miss the charm of Friends. It was canceled after 2 seasons.
24:Legacy: After Keifer Sutherland decided not to come back as Jack Bauer and focus on other TV shows, the makers of 24 decided to keep the concept same but change the leading man. Though Sutherland's iconic Jack Bauer existed in the same universe, Legacy focused on Eric Carter (Corey Hawkins). The series received mixed reviews and was canceled after the 1st season.
How I Met Your Dad: The channel CBS decided to give the spin-off a shot after the series ended in 2014 and there was a lot of demand from the fans as well. It was also created by the How I Met Your Mother makers and Greta Gerwig appeared as the 'Mother'. A pilot was shot but the initial reception was not up to the expectations and hence the channel decided to pull the plug on this series.
Baywatch Nights: David Hasselhoff's Baywatch became one of the most watched TV shows in the world but after its cancelation, Baywatch Nights was commissioned which didn't get good reviews and the series was eventually canceled.
That 80s Show: Focusing on Eric Forman's cousin Corey Howard, the show retained some producers and writers from That 70s Show but couldn't match the popularity of original and hence it was canceled.
