Akshay Kumar Nails It Yet Again With PadMan
From Airlift to Jolly LLB 2 and now Toilet - Ek Prem Katha to PadMan, Akshay Kumar is clearly on a path where patriotism and social responsibilities are being take care of hand in hand. Just when one thought that he has done his job as a responsible citizen for ‘swachh bharat’, he is now taking things up, close and personal by looking at spreading the message of being ‘swachh’ yourself. That is now happening with PadMan, the promo of which has just been unveiled after a lot of suspense over the last fortnight or so.
What strikes the most about the film is the manner in which a sensitive theme like is translated on the screen so beautifully and in a sensitive manner. Talking about sanitary napkins may be a taboo for many households in even urban India but PadMan is clearly picking up the subject heads on and that too in a light hearted manner and without any preachiness coming into play.
The stand out moments of the promo are the one where Akshay Kumar is addressing a large gathering of elite and sharing with them his views on menstrual cycle and how women are the strongest. There are many dialogues from this scene that are interspersed throughout the promo and rest assured it would lead to a standing ovation when played on the big screen as a part of the film. Since Akshay is playing a man from rural India, he speaks in minimalist English and that really works extraordinary well for the character that he plays and the confidence that the actor carries to pull it off.
Meanwhile, director Balki too seems set to have pulled it all off by bringing in a fantastic combination of scenes, visuals, background score and of course the dialogues that compliment what the film is all about. That’s exactly the case with Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte too who appear just tailor-made for their respective roles. Sonam has been underrated for 10 years and now with PadMan coming after Neerja, hopefully she would get more credit for her act.
As for the other women behind the film, it is fascinating to see Twinkle Khanna seeing the germ of an idea roll put into a major film while Prernaa Arora backing it up fully as a producer to ensure that a subject like this gets its right audience.
Before its arrival, many would have thought that the promo would meet with a diverse response from audiences. However, men and women, adults and teens, urban and rural India - all would accept this one with open arms and wide smiles.
This one is now indeed one of the most awaited films of 2018, and it comes soon too on 26th January.
