11 Years Of Ranbir, Deepika & Sonam In Bollywood: Analyzing Their Journeys

The year was 2007 and Diwali was on 9^th November. The time of festivals and long weekends is eyed by Bollywood years in advance and filmmakers and producers along with big stars try to book the major holiday slots for the release of their film. This is the time when a majority of films rake a lot of money at the box office.

During Diwali of 2007, 2 films clashed at the box office and they had 3 debutants who are now bona fide superstars. Deepika Padukone debuted with Shah Rukh Khan in Farah Khan ’s Om Shanti Om that went on to earn 80 crores in India alone and was a blockbuster. Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor debuted with Saawariya which was directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali but the film failed to set the box office on fire. Fast forward to 2017 and all 3 have built their own brand in Bollywood and have a crazy fan following. Ranbir Kapoor

Movies & Box Office- The actor has made a name for himself by acing unconventional roles in films like Barfi and Rockstar . These 2 films have also brought him 2 Filmfare Awards for the best actor and have put him in the league of the best actors in Bollywood. Sanju is his highest grossing film with collections of 337 Crores in India. His films have a cumulative gross of more than 1280 Crores and he’s surely on his way to becoming one of the biggest stars in India.

Controversies- In these 11 years, he has also been at the center of many controversies. Most of the times, he has been criticized for being a playboy and non-serious personality in real life. He has been linked with almost all of his leading actresses and his recent pictures with Mahira Khan bought flak for both of them. He is now said to be dating his Brahmastra co-star, Alia Bhatt .

Biggest Failures & Achievements- Bombay Velvet , directed by Anurag Kashyap was said to be the magnum opus that will make Ranbir the best actor in Industry but it flopped miserably. The film ended up earning 30 Crores on a budget of 120 Crores and is one of the worst Bollywood disasters while Jagga Jasoos also flopped with collections of 70 Crores.  He is the recipient of 2 Filmfare awards for the best actor and has given 3 of the biggest hits in Bollywood in Sanju, Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani, and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil .

Deepika Padukone

Movies & Box Office- She has proven her worth in Bollywood with remarkable performances in Padmaavat, Bajirao Mastani , Piku , Cocktail , Love Aaj Kal and Ram Leela . She is arguably the best actress working in Bollywood today. She has aced her roles in both masala and content-oriented films and that’s what makes her such a great actor, the adaptability. Chennai Express is her highest grosser in India with collections of 226 Crores.  She has one film in the 300 Crore Club, 2 films in 200 Crore club and 3 films in 100 Crore Club. She’s also a 2 time Filmfare Award for Best Actress winner.

Controversies- She has been at the center of many controversies most notably for her relationship and then break up with Ranbir Kapoor. She along with Sonam Kapoor blasted Ranbir for fun on a chat show and an arrest warrant was issued for her in Jalandhar for hurting religious sentiments for her role in Ram Leela. Also, the Siddharth Mallya rebound and her link-ups with various cricketers were highly publicized.

She courted major controvery during the release of Padmavaat. In fact, a group has even claimed that they will cut her nose if the film is released!

Movies & Box Office- The actress has appeared in one 100 Crore and one 200 Crore film. Her highest grossing Bollywood release is Prem Ratan Dhan Payo where she starred opposite Salman Khan and the film grossed 208 Crores in India. She has garnered widespread acclaim for her performances in Neerja , Raanjhanaa , and Khoobsurat . She has won a National Award and a Filmfare critics award for her role in Neerja.

Controversies- She has been at the center of major controversies most notably for blasting Ranbir Kapoor with Deepika Padukone on a chat show. She apparently called Aishwarya Rai and aunty and was involved in a social media fight with Abhay Deol over fairness creams. She also showed the middle finger to the press at an event and was also involved in a war of words with Shobha De.

Biggest Failures & Achievements: She has appeared in major flops like Bewakoofiyaan, Dolly Ki Doli, and Players .
