Aamir Khan on Lagaan and Gadar's clash 20 years back: "I told Ashu to be prepared for a good film, but I wasn't prepared for the monster of a film"

It has been 20 years since Ashutosh Gowarikar's Lagaan: Once Upon A Time In India had released. The film starring Aamir Khan as Bhuvan, had soon become iconic and even went to the top 5 for the Academy Awards that year in the Best Feature Film in Foreign language category. 20 years on, it is just as relevant and entertaining as it had been during the time of release. But, what one might not recall is the fact that the film released on the same day as Sunny Deol starrer Gadar, which became a blockbuster upon release.

Aamir Khan on Lagaan and Gadar&squot;s clash 20 years back: "I told Ashu to be prepared for a good film, but I wasn&squot;t prepared for the monster of a film"

In a recent press con, Aamir Khan recalled how he was confident that Gadar would be a great film, but had not imagined how big it would turn out to be. He said, "I told Ashu (Ashutosh Gowariker) 'be prepared for a good film, Gadar will be good'. The producer had met me once and he had told me the outline, so I knew it would be a good film. I was prepared for Gadar to be a good film. What I was not prepared for, was the monster of a film that it was. People would travel in trucks for the film. Gadar was at least three times, if not four times, bigger than Lagaan. Gadar was a tsunami. If Lagaan was even one percent less of a film, we would not have stood a chance anywhere. It is good that both films did good and received all the love. Lagaan may not have done great business but it received a lot of love."
