After Hungama 2 Priyadarshan hints at a Hulchul sequel, reveals if Hera Pheri 3 is happening

Filmmaker Priyadarshan returns to Bollywood with a sequel to Hungama, his rib-tickling comedy from 18 years ago that is seemingly unforgettable for Bollywood fans. The movie may not have any links to the original apart from cast members like Rajpal Yadav and Paresh Rawal but Hungama 2 like the original is a comedy of errors.

As excitement peaks about his first Bollywood offering after 7 years, Priyadarshan answers if he has plans to turn any of his other popular films like Hulchul, Garam Masala, Malamaal Weekly into a franchise in a recent interview. Priyadarshan tells the Free Press Journal, “Definitely Hulchul, it’s one of my biggest hits. I have an idea in mind, but I am waiting to see how people react to Hungama 2 and accordingly, I will plan Hulchul 2.”

Hulchul was a romantic comedy starring Akshaye Khanna and Kareena Kapoor as leads in a big ensemble cast including stars like Shakti Kapoor, Paresh Rawal, Arbaaz Khan, Suneil Shetty, Arshad Warsi, Amrish Puri, Jackie Shroff among others. The film released in 2004.

Asked about the widely anticipated third film in the Hera Pheri franchise, he tells the portal, “I was happy doing the first one, I don’t want to do anymore Hera Pheris. Does that answer your question?”

Hera Pheri 3 was announced a few years ago but wasn’t able to take off despite the many cast changes the film had to go through.
