Ajay Devgn Signs Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Gangubai Kathiawadi, To Play Mumbai Don Karim Lala

Sanjay Leela Bhansali is busy working on his next big project Gangubai Kathiawadi. The filmmaker revived the project with Alia Bhatt after his film with Salman Khan Inshallah got shelved. The film which is all set to go on floors in December has now been joined by Ajay Devgn who will be playing mafia Karim Lala according to KRK box office.

Karim Lala was one of the three big dons in Mumbai who hailed from Afghanistan. Haji Mastan and Varadarajan Mudaliar were the other two big dons and it is being speculated that Hrithik Roshan might step in to play Haji Mastan.

Ajay will be collaborating with Sanjay Leela Bhansali after their 1999 success Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. A source had earlier told PTI about Ajay’s part in the film and said, “It is not a full-fledged part but a special appearance. It is a very interesting role. An official statement in this regard will be made soon.”

Meanwhile Alai Bhatt has been working on learning fluent Kathiawadi with the assistance of Supriya Pathak and Manoj Joshi. There were also reports claiming that Gangubai Kathiawadi will be Bhansali’s most grand film till date and the sets of the film left Alia Bhatt awestruck.

Gangubai Kathiawadi will release in theatres on September 11, 2020. SLB also has announced his next after Gangubai titled Baiju Bawra which is lined up to release close to Diwali 2021.
