The coronavirus pandemic and the ensuing lockdown have shuffled our lives in ways we had not imagined. It has affected the film industry as well. Shoots came to a halt and set built for the films lay bare as it is! Many of the sets had to be demolished too. Ajay Devgn starrer Maidaan's set headed towards a similar fate since the shoot did not resume till the monsoons.

According to a report in Mid-Day, the set had been dismantled in June before the rains hit the city. Now, it is being said that it would be reconstructed only in November. A source close to the production told the daily, "Ajay, Amit ( Ravindernath Sharma, director) and Boney Kapoor had opined that returning to the set in June would be impractical as they would have to call time once monsoon arrived. Given that the rains would destroy the set completely, they decided to pull it down and have it built from scratch in October."

Even reconstructing wasn't an option and the makers will build the set again completely. The source added, "Reconstructing the set will be an additional expense. The makers may also have to level the soil that will be uneven after the rains."

The film was slated to release in December 2020 but has now been pushed to 13th August 2021. It is based on the life of Syed Abdul Rahim, the man who heralded the golden period of India's football journey.
