Akshay Kumar not distressed about Sooryavanshi’s delay; has left the decision with Rohit Shetty

Back in February last year, it was announced that Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif starrer cop drama Sooryavanshi will arrive in theatres on 27th march. However, it was later pre-poned to 24th and makers planned for it to be screened 24/7 in Mumbai, so that the audience could watch it any time they want. However, the COVID-19 pandemic ended up being a big bump in the road. It has been a year and a half and fans are still eagerly waiting for the film to release. The main question now on most minds is whether the Rohit Shetty directorial will arrive on the big screen, or will it premiere on an OTT platform.

In this one and a half years, two of Akshay’s films were released for the audiences-- while Laxmii premiered on Disney+ Hotstar, Bell Bottom marked ‘the revival of cinemas’ before releasing on Amazon Prime Video. Well, in a recent chat with Mid Day, Bollywood’s Khiladi shared his opinion on OTT releases. He explained that while the platforms are getting new films, content creators have a place to showcase their work. This makes it a win-win situation.

Talking about his much-awaited film Sooryavanshi’s release, Akshay shared, “There’s no point in being distressed. I have left the decision to Rohit and Reliance [Entertainment]. It’s as much their film as it is mine. I’m sure whatever decision they take, will be in the best interest of the film.”

As movie lovers, where would you like to watch the premiere of Sooryavanshi-- theatres or an OTT platform?
