Amit Kumar on Anurag Basu's plans of making Kishore Kumar biopic with Ranbir: "Any Tom, Dick & Harry can say anything"

Anurag Basu has expressed certainty for some time now that he will be the one to make a biopic based on the life of legendary singer and actor Kishore Kumar.  While the project has been a subject of headlines for many years now, last year the filmmaker asserted that he is definitely going forward with the project. The Kishore Kumar biopic will definitely be a project to watch out for whenever it happens but contradicting Anurag Basu’s statements the music icon’s son Amit Kumar has that it is definitely not happening at the moment.

The Barfi director had gone so far as to share his casting plans for the project in the media as well and said that he will make the film with actor Ranbir Kapoor playing Kishore Kumar. Anurag’s enthusiasm and plans for the project seem to have hit a roadblock as Amit Kumar says that the rights to make the film have not been given to any filmmaker yet.

“First of all nobody has the right to make a film on Kishore Da. The family is going to write the script and thirdly it is going to take a year, then we will decide the casting director for it,” Amit Kumar told Times of India in an interview.

When asked about Anurag Basu’s plans of making a Kishore Kumar biopic, the music director brushed it off saying, “Anurag Basu or any Tom Dick and Harry can say anything, it does not mean anything to us. The family takes the decision and we will decide who will direct and we will produce the film and may direct it, too.”

Defusing rumours of Ranbir playing Kishore Kumar, Amit further said that the family has not decided on who will play the legendary singer and added that it cannot be decided at this stage.
