The film is Abhinav Sinha’s second social drama after Mulk and got a positive word of mouth for tackling a sensitive subject like caste very well. Ayushmann plays a cop in the movie who is determined to be an eye-opener on caste-based practices in society.

After Badhaai Ho, Article 15 has become Ayushmann’s second biggest opener with Rs. 20.4 crores already in on the first weekend. The film faced big competition from Shahid Kapoor’s Kabir Singh which is enjoying a strong second week run and has already surpassed the 175 crore mark at the box office. The India vs. England match on Sunday also stunted the growth of the film slightly.

Article 15 on the weekend also faced some opposition in Kanpur over the weekend where a group protested in theatres and the distributors stopped screening the film till the situation was brought under control by the police.
