Ayushmann Khurrana Says Success Of Vicky Donor Made Him Overconfident, Flops Seemed Outlandish Till They Happened

Ayushmann Khurrana has become a league of his own in Bollywood. The actor has been on a success streak and with seven consecutive hits, he has become one of the most bankable actors in the industry. But unlike many, he does not stick to one genre. While social comedy is definitely his go to genre, he has also done a social drama like Article 15, which proved to be successful as well. In fact, he is experimenting with different characters and how. Thanks to his performance, he even bagged a National Award last year. But at the start of his career, had he ever thought he could achieve this feat?

Ayushmann answered the question in a recent interview with Mumbai Mirror. Talking to the daily, he revealed that he was ‘over-confident’ after the super success of his debut film, Vicky Donor. But two years later, when he saw three consecutive flops, it helped him stay grounded. He even said that at that point in time, it would have seemed ‘outlandish’, but he needed to recalibrate after the flops and that’s exactly what he did! Here’s what he said:

"I was in La La Land after my first film, so I may have believed it. When your first film does well, you think everything will go right. I had a lot of self-confidence and probably a bit of overconfidence as well. But in 2014, I had three unsuccessful. If someone had told me this then, it would have seemed outlandish. It is at times like this, when you need to recalibrate.”

He also talked about his upcoming film Subh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan and said that the timing for the release is just ‘perfect’. “I believe that India is ready for that character and that kind of cinema. The Supreme Court has legalised same-sex relationships and this is the right time for a love story on the LGBTQ community,” the actor said. He even revealed that he is looking forward to being a part of an action film. He is also discussing a film in this genre with Article 15 director, Anubhav Sinha and says that an announcement would be made soon!
