Bulbbul Actress Tripti Dimri Opens Up About Laila Majnu’s Failure; Feels Audiences’ Support Matters A Lot

Anushka Sharma’s Clean Slate Films released their latest masterpiece Bulbbul on streaming giant Netflix last month. Featuring an extremely talented ensemble cast of actors including Tripti Dimri, Avinash Tiwary, Paoli Dam, Rahul Bose and Parambrata Chattopadhyay, Bulbbul has beautifully been written and directed by Anvita Dutt. It follows the story of a child-bride and her journey from innocence to strength with a spooky yet magical and mythological twist. While all the actors were lauded by fans and critics, Tripti stood out from the crowd thanks to her exceptional performance.

Sadly, such was not the case with her earlier releases. In a recent chat with Pinkvilla, Tripti opened up about the failure of her second film Laila Majnu and shared, “I attended as many shows I could in those 7 days (that the film was in theatres) because I was seeing myself on the big screen for the very first time. I was very excited. But then, sometimes there were 20 people, sometimes 5 or 1 or 2, that really broke my heart. See, if I was a filmmaker and I was putting my money in a film, I would definitely want actors who can bring the audience to the theatres, otherwise what is the point of it? Because I will be spending a lot of money on the film. I think it is a business module.” The failure of the film broke her heart but she dealt with it by working on her craft and keeping herself busy.

The actress also feels that the audiences’ support matters a lot. She stated that Kartik Aaryan is also an outsider but people love watching him in films and support him, and that’s the reason he’s a star today. In fact there are many ‘outsiders’ who become superstars because of their fans’ support. Tripti explained, “Suppose tomorrow if Bulbbul had released in theatres and if it had got such a great response which it got on the web, then I would have got 10 calls from various people to do their films. I think this is how it works. If you go and watch it, then those actors will definitely get more work.”

Avinash and Tripti’s Laila Majnu gave a beautiful spin to the classic, but was unfortunately termed as a cliché.
