Rumours had been doing the rounds that the makers of Coolie No. 1 were keen to release the film in theatres as well. While the multiplex owners had put their foot down, talks with single-screen theatre owners were reportedly on. But now, it looks like we won't get to see the film on the big screen!

Well, the reason seems to be Amazon Prime. Earlier, a talk had been initiated among Vashu Bhagnani, who has produced the film, single-screen owners and Amazon Prime. But, according to a source quoted by Bollywood Hungama, "The Amazon Prime team put their foot down and made it amply clear that they would want the film to be available exclusively on their platform. They had a justification behind this decision since the Amazon team had paid a decent sum for Coolie No. 1’s OTT premiere. Therefore they were not in consensus for sharing the movie theatrically and hence, ruled out the possibility of its theatrical release. The makers tried to persuade them, however, they didn’t relent. Needless to say, the makers as well as the single screen owners are miffed and disappointed with this decision.”

Well, given how massy David Dhawan films are, Coolie No. 1 might have managed to pull crowds to theatres back again! But that's not happening unfortunately and we would have to wait longer to see Varun on the big-screens again.
