Did Deepika Padukone Reject Aishwarya Rai Bachchan Starrer Nati Binodini Biopic?

A few days ago, it was reported that the beautiful Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is in talks with Pradeep Sarkar for a film based on the life of courtesan-turned-theatre personality Binodini Dasi. According to reports, the film would be inspired by chapters of her autobiography Amar Katha, which was published in 1913. However, latest buzz suggests that Deepika Padukone was the original choice for the film, but she walked out of the project after Chhapaak released.

According to a report in Bollywood Life, a source was quoted saying, “The makers met Deepika a couple of months ago to give her a story narration. She liked the story and agreed to read the script. But then she got busy with Chhapaak promotions and kept them hanging in limbo saying that she would get back to them. Finally, her team reverted after more than a month saying that she couldn’t do the movie as she wanted to do light-hearted subjects and not heavy or serious movies, which would consume her emotionally.”

Chhapaak, based on the life of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal, hit theatres on 10^th January this year and received positive reviews from fans as well as celebs. Also featuring Vikrant Massey, the Meghna Gulzar directorial is not only Deepika’s first film after marriage, but also marks her very first production venture.
