    Just like everyone else, director of film like Lagaan and Jodha Akbar, Ashutosh Gowariker is also a huge fan of the grandest epic of Indian cinema Mughal-E-Azam. In fact, right after he was the toast of nation due to Lagaan, actor and screenwrite Haidar Ali approached him to re-make Mughal-E-Azam, and he was on board.

    However, while developing the project, Haidar came up with the idea of making a prequel to Mughal-E-Azam instead of a remake.   Gowariker instantly impresses by the idea.

    The project was then developed to tell the story of Akbar’s life from 13 years of age to 28 which of course, included his marriage with Jodha.

    Interestingly enough, Madhubala who played the iconic character of Anarkali in Mughal-E-Azam almost shared her birthday with the release of the film. While Madhubala’s birthday is on 14th February, the film Jodha Akbar released on 15th February.
