Ahimsa, peace and honesty are some of the teachings of the Mahatma and, as the world celebrates Gandhi Jayanti this year, our TV people tell us how much they can still relate to his teachings.

Arjun Bijlani- If non- violence would have worked today I guess women would really never have faced domestic violence. Not every situation needs to be dealt with violence and it's best to stay away from situations and in today's world nobody would stay calm if gets slapped.

Shashank Vyas: I believe it's important to first understand the thoughts behind Mahatma Gandhi's words. Once we correctly understand his perspective, we'll be able to apply the same even today. He says, "Non-violent resistance implies the very opposite of weakness. Defiance combined with non-retaliatory acceptance of repression from one's opponents is active, not passive. It requires strength, and there is nothing automatic or intuitive about the resoluteness required for using non-violent methods in political struggle and the quest for truth.” He also said be the change you wish to see in this world. So we have to begin somewhere as individuals rather than taking the easier, weaker approach of retaliation with violence.

Ssharad Malhotraa: Non-violence policy is good but I don't believe it works in today times because if you do so people think you are weak and they have the power to degrade you. So you have to raise your voice at least to put your point across.

Shivin Narang: Non-violence should not be just one day. It should become a part of our life. While some of Gandhiji’s teachings may not be relevant today, the basic idea of non-violence and honesty is relevant.

Shadman Khan - Gandhi's teachings doesn't hold much water these days. He does command a huge respect from all and sundry expecially from us the Indians. But as far as non-violence is concerned, His odeas and theories were questioned then and they are almost non-existent now. I personally feel it is difficult to withstand one slap on your face in front of the entire world especially now when intolerance is at its peak. You can't just let go off the person who has slapped you. That's because it then hurts one's sense of self respect. Who on earth is that poerson to slap me? What gives him or her the authority to slap me? Especially when he or she is not my mother or my father! Has he given me brith or raised me or is he feeding me? What on earth gives him the right to raise his or her hand on me?

Mohit Duseja - India now is a democratic country with freedom of speech, action and much more which I think is a result of Gandhi’s mentality and hard work He has truly earned the respect of everyone and  I also feel that non-violence was a very good ideal that he stuck to but how much that works in the present day and age is what is questionable. I don’t see anyone who after being slapped on one side of his face, wants to get slapped on the other.

Adaa Khan- Non-violence back then worked well in our favor but looking at the present scenario of the people around us, nobody really cares about others except for their friends and family. If today someone comes to me first I'd rather try to solve it with patience and peace of mind and I know that I would'nt initiate neither let a heating arguement increase.

Khalid Siddiqui: There are a lot of traits Gandhiji had and the best were equality and non violence. He never believed in caste system and giving equal importance to everyone which is something I believe hardcore in. Every religion teaches good things and so did he but that is up to you how much you take it in your life, relevance is there today be it equality, non-violence, but unfortunately it's a very high spiritual stage that you have to achieve to be at that level. Somewhere we cannot contain it. In my life I never had a fight with anyone, never slapped or verbal fight with anyone. I am quite non violent I am short tempered at times but non violent. I have never fought with anyone ever in life.

Gulshan Nain  I don't like violence. It brings good to no one. The things you can do with love and compassion , you cant do by fighting. Personally I feel violence is the outcome of ange , impulse, ego , intolerance which brings harm to yourself and your surroundings. I won't say that I havent fought in my school and college days. I used to but it never yielded any positive results. So now I try and walk away from any such situations which involve violence and hope everyone to do so.
