EXCLUSIVE: Katrina Kaif Spills All About Her Relationships In A Conversation with Sandip Pal

Katrina is one gorgeous belle. The lady who has an aura of her own, spoke at length with Desimartini's Sandip Pal about all things under the sun in an exclusive chat. We all love her and so does the rest of the country but does anyone really know, what is the real Katrina all about? What does she think? How she takes a particular situation? How she reacts to criticism? Well, with a person as reticent and reserved as her, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to state even after all that is written about her and her opinions, her hits and flops, her fashion achievements and blunders, her relationship status and everything under the sun for that matter is just blatant speculation.

So, it was on a lazy afternoon that I happened to meet her, there she was sitting in the corner of the studio in an azure dress, her hair was let loose and she was at her poised best. She was nibbling on some cookies. During the entire course of our candid repartee about life and its ways, her films and choices so on and so forth, I could see a little girl who is a bit reluctant to open up in the beginning but then gradually making an effort to say whatever she was saying with a little bit of alacrity in her heart!

She just looked dainty throughout – Katrina are you listening?

EXCLUSIVE: Be it Relationships, Scripts; I Choose What I think Is Best For Me At That Time – Katrina Kaif

With her film Zero on the verge of release, gorgeousness herself spoke to me about the film and much more –

    Excerpts from the conversation -

As an actress you are always in the limelight, on the contrary, in reality, you are a very reticent and a reserved person, how do you take all the attention, both negative and positive?

There are some people who you naturally become very comfortable with and then there are some you feel guarded when in their midst. These are people who I am very comfortable around, and again there are people you don’t know, that is always going to be awkward.

What is the difference you see in yourself if you take your very first stint in Bollywood to this very day into consideration?

I see it as a long period of time, I have gone through everything, immense highs and lows, drama trauma and every emotion you can think of, I take away, an overall feeling of feeling very blessed, fortunate for the love being given to me, retrospect is not important, the feeling of now is more important, what I want to do now,  what I want from life now, what direction I want my life to take now onwards is what is of utmost importance to me.

You are completely different from the character that you are playing in the film Zero. Was that an emotional catharsis of sorts?

I find it more satisfying to play the characters whom I don’t resemble in real life, it comes out better because, its away from who you are, it makes more sense to me, your lines are not blurred you are not confused, you are able to craft and construct someone who is completely different. As a director, Anand Sir is extremely clear. He always used to say – “I don’t want Babita (Katrina's name in the film Zero) to be self-indulgent, I don’t want her to be self-pitying, she’s is not boring, I don’t’ want her to lay the surface emotion, I want the audience to feel that she is sad and dejected but she is depicting something else.”  So, my character is being obnoxious to cover up what she is really feeling from within and that I think is a very basic human trait, that is something we all do.

EXCLUSIVE: Be it Relationships, Scripts; I Choose What I think Is Best For Me At That Time – Katrina Kaif

The ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ trio has again been repeated in this film, how has the working relationship with your co-actors been the second time around?

Anushka and I have shared a great equation, I trust her and relate to her on many levels, SRK is so passionate about his craft and has an immense amount of life knowledge, world knowledge and a great energy to have and a great producer to have as well.

What are the points that you start working upon when you have read the script and start to conjure up the character in your head so that you can play her in front of the lens?

That depends on the character and is also dictated by what’s there in the script and on the paper. You read that on the paper and then you start to figure out the mind of the person who would behave in that way. I have to know where it all is coming from. If the director knows most of it, which they do, they will be guiding you but the rest of it is how you as an actor are able to decipher the mind of the character you are playing.

In one of your interviews, you had mentioned that a woman can gauge whether a person gives out a positive or a negative vibe…

But sometimes, it can also be a neutral feeling and that is also okay. You always do not have to have a huge response to everything. Sometimes there are people who you can instantly connect with for some reason and then there are people who you instantly feel you want to be away from. As human beings, your response to people is on an instinctive level. A Lot of things as I said are just neutral.

Tell me, how do you make your choices in terms of your relationships, the scripts you choose to be part of how?

(After a long pause) At a given point in time, I think, I choose whatever I think is perhaps the best for me then. Whether it be my relations or the scripts. I choose only them which I think have the best chance for working. Which when made into a film, I feel people would want to come and watch.
