EXCLUSIVE: JD Majethia To Seek Permission From Government To Resume Shoots From 3rd May, FWICE Chairman Sends A Strongly Worded Objection Letter

The country is under lockdown right now as a measure to fight the spread of COVID 19 virus. The film and television industry JD Majethia chairman of the TV wing of the Indian Film and TV Producers’ Council (IFTPC) stated that he intends to approach the government to seek permission to resume shoots of television shows with small crews from 4th May. This move has sent the daily wage workers in the industry in a frenzy as they are all set to get back to work from 3rd May and guess what? They have been constantly calling the Federation of Western Indian Cine Employees, the mother body of all associations to know whether they would be reporting to work from the 3rd of May or not.

When we spoke to FWICE chairman BN Tewari he opposed the move. He tells us, "JD Majethia has sent a wrong statement to the daily wage workers and that now they think, the producers want to work but FWICE is imposing unnecessary restrictions which is not the case. We won’t let it happen. The condition in Maharashtra especially in Mumbai. It is the life of the poor that matters and our prime minister has said, ‘Jaan Hai To Jaahaan Hai’, now since I am running the mother body, it is my responsibility to take care of the well-being of my workers. So, I don’t think it is possible at all. I have raised an objection and have stated all of my objections in a letter that I sent him."

"We all belong to the same family. When we had suspended functioning on 15th after a huge meeting, there was IFTDA, IMPAA, IFTPC and FWICE too were present. We had to be there because we have all the workers. One cannot take a collective decision on behalf of so many people. I had a strong objection on this and therefore I directly wrote to him."
