EXCLUSIVE: Sudesh Berry’s Son, Suraj Berry’s Debut Film Shelved Due To The Rift Between Ekta Kapoor And Suniel Shetty

In the Bollywood industry, there are so many films made on a daily basis, every Friday sees a flurry of films, competing against one another! Clashes happen, release dates are postponed, special promotional techniques are used – so on and so forth. But what about the films, that are shot with the utmost integrity and complete involvement but due to a rift with the producers, shortage of funds, lack of distribution or some other reasons, don’t get to see the light of day?! Well, there are several such films that are canned for various reasons.

One such film that remains canned since the last five years is “The Little Godfather”.

According to a close source, Desimartini.com exclusively came to know that the film was to be produced by Suniel Shetty’s Popcorn Entertainment Private Limited and co-produced by Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms. “Today, the film is almost stands completed with just about 4 to 5 days of shoot and the final edit remaining.”

The source furthered, “Actor Sudesh Berry’s son Suraj Berry, Angad Bedi and Kader Khan’s son Shahnawaz Khan played pivotal roles in the film. The Little Godfather was based on the 2006 serial train bombings.”

It was due to a monetary tussle, that Suniel Shetty and Ekta Kapoor fell apart and the film didn’t see the light of day. “Ekta had already shelled out the required amount of money for the film but turned out, Suniel Shetty had already spent the money. Therefore, when it was time to complete the film and initiate the post-production of it, there was a shortage of funds. This was when Suniel approached Ekta for more money who refused to shell out anymore outright. This was the reason behind the film being canned completely,” revealed the source.

We had to get in touch with Suraj in order to know every aspect of the story. However, Suraj failed to shed much light on the issue besides the fact that, “the entire problem happened because of monetary issues.” He further stated, “I heard that the film would be revived but then I came to know that Popcorn Entertainment was shut down and with that, all hopes of the revival of the film went down the drain.”

Angad Bedi who too plays a prominent role in the film said, this is a very old occurrence. I don’t know much about the details but the producers should know more about it.”

Kader Khan’s son Shahnawaz Khan played the negative role in the film, while Suraj and Angad played the role of street-hawkers and how with a sudden turn of events, they turn out to be saviours of the lives of hundreds of people. Shambhavi Sharma played the female lead in the film. There was some news about Suniel and Ekta ironing out the differences and Ekta was supposed to revive the film and would lead the project solo but that too didn't quite come to pass.

Well, from what I heard about the film and the understanding that I got about the content of the film. It is indeed very gritty and intense. Such films that have a richness of content are really doing well these days. The fact that ninety percent of the film is complete and just the post-production of the film is remaining, we at Desimartini.com feel, such a film should be wasted and if not a theatrical release, a web release could be planned for the film. We hope, we get to see the film and people who have worked so hard for the film get their dues.
