Farah Khan finds it 'stupid' to announce new films during pandemic: 'Coming next Diwali, next year - where are they coming?'

Farah Khan has been keeping away from film sets during the pandemic and is busy working from home. The choreographer and filmmaker spoke about the recent slump that Bollywood has been facing owing to the pandemic and how several films have been stalled since last year.

The filmmaker said there’s currently no point announcing movies as there are several films from last year already awaiting their turn since the theatres remain shut down. She also addressed the uncertainty that comes with theatrical releases as it is still unknown when cinemas will be re-open completely and normalcy will return.

Speaking to New 18 Farah said, “I have decided that the day I start the shoot is the day I will announce the film. Because you announce and then something happens, or you don’t announce and the press leaks it, and then it looks like arey yeh ho raha tha, fir nahi hua. Even now when I see people announcing movies - coming next Diwali, coming next year - where are they coming? When will the theatres open? I just find it stupid now that you’re going on announcing, but what about last year’s movies that are yet to release?”

For now, Farah is busy directing advertisements from home. Asked about returning to film sets she said, “Once you go on the set, the danger is that you forget there is Covid. Everything becomes normalized within 1-2 hours. You always need to have at the back of your mind that you’re going to wear masks, that you can’t lower your guard. You can’t go hugging and kissing people and sitting with them in meetings, etc.”

Farah was to announce a project with filmmaker Rohit Shetty before the whole pandemic situation but looks like those plans have been indefinitely stalled for now. The filmmaker also hit the news for apparently aiming to direct a remake of Saate Pe Saata but she had brushed off all such rumours.
