Well, Gully Boy was India’s official entry to the 92nd Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language Film Category. Unfortunately, the film was shown the door during the final shortlisting. There are ten films that are still part of the race and they are - The Painted Bird (Czech Republic), Truth and Justice (Estonia), Les Misérables (France), Those Who Remained (Hungary), Honeyland (North Macedonia), Corpus Christi (Poland), Beanpole (Russia), Atlantics (Senegal), Parasite (South Korea) and Pain & Glory (Spain).

Everybody is upset about it. However, earlier in the day, we had seen how Rangoli Chandel, Kangana’s sister said the film was not qualified for the Oscars because it was not original like Manikarnika and Uri.

Now, according to media reports Farhan Akhtar too is in disarray because the film is no more competing the foreign film category. According to a Spotboye report, he did not make any bones about the fact that he indeed is extremely disheartened. The report quotes the actor-director as saying, “We are disappointed that Gully Boy didn't make it to the shortlist but grateful that we had the opportunity to compete. Best of luck to the films that have made it through."

Well, we at Desimartini feel, the Oscar jury is way stricter and they keep a check on microscopic details and they might have sense similarities of Gully Boy with other foreign films and hence the film was rejected outright. However, the show must go on and we are hopeful, once again one of the films from Bollywood will surely make it to the Oscars!
