Lord Varys in today's episode said to Daenerys that he promised that he will look at her eyes and tell her when she makes a mistake. That is perhaps what you do when you love something dearly and that is why I have to say that Episode 4 of Game of Thrones Season 8 was underwhelming.

Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 4 Review: Too Much Happens In Westeros But Somehow The Impact Does Not Feel Strong Enough

It is not that important things did not happen in the episode, but after the breathtaking episode last week, today’s episode felt a little rushed. It seemed like now that the series is nearing an end, makers are struggling to rush to the conclusion.

Actually, too much happens in the episode but not enough time or in fact importance is given to things.

Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 4 Review: Too Much Happens In Westeros But Somehow The Impact Does Not Feel Strong Enough

We see Gendry becoming the Lord of Storm’s End and proposes Arya to be his Lady which she turns down. Jaime and Lady Brienne finally succumbs to their passion for one another, Varys and Tyrion debates whether Jon would be a better choice over Daenerys for the Iron Throne and finally when they attack Cersei in King Landing, Rhaegal is killed and Missandei is captured and killed by Cersei as she refuses to surrender to Daenerys. Also, it turns out that Cersei is trying to pass off her pregnancy as Euron’s child.

On another side, the tension seems to mount between Jon and Daenerys and she begs Jon to not reveal her identity to anyone. However, loyal to his Stark blood, Jon reveals the information to Arya and Sansa and even they state clearly that they do not want Daenerys to be the king.

All of these are incidents that can alter the entire course of the story, but somehow it is not stringed in the way things are stringed in Game of Thrones usually. Not only did the execution seem rushed, but perhaps for the first time in the history of Game of Thrones, the editing seemed particularly choppy.

All our hopes are now pinned on to the deathly look that Grey Worm and Daenerys gives after Missandei is beheaded by Cersei. Maybe the next episode will pick up the pace and give us the heart-stopping moments and taut story and execution that we have come to expect from this phenomenon of a series.
