Gangubai Kathiawadi: Nawazuddin Siddiqui was going to play this role in the Alia Bhatt starrer; here’s why things didn’t work out

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s biographical crime drama Gangubai Kathiawadi is undoubtedly one of the most awaited films of Bollywood. Not only does it mark the filmmaker’s first project with the very talented Alia Bhatt, but also features exciting extended cameos by the versatile Ajay Devgn and Emraan Hashmi. Well, it has now been revealed that another well-known star from the Hindi film industry was approached to play an important character in Gangubai Kathiawadi. However, things did not work out.

According to a report shared by Pinkvilla, the one and only Nawazuddin Siddiqui was offered a special character in the film. He was quite interested but sadly things did not materialize because of a very genuine reason-- dates. A source was quoted saying, “Nawazuddin Siddiqui was offered the role of a journalist in Gangubai Kathiawadi. Both the actor and the maker were keen to collaborate too, however it didn’t work out because of the date issues.”

Also starring Shantanu Maheshwari, Vijay Raaz, Seema Pahwa and Huma Qureshi in pivotal roles, Gangubai Kathiawadi is scheduled to hit theatres on 6^th January next year. The film saw a few delays due to the coronavirus pandemic, but thankfully this has only piqued the interest of audiences. How excited are you to watch Alia shine on the big screen as Gangu?
