Hema Malini began her career in 1961 with a regional film where she played a dancer. However, in 1964, she tried to act for the first time. In a previous interview, she recalled about her first stint in acting and revealed that she was cast along with Jayalalithaa in Venniradai, which was helmed by C.V.Sridhar. Hemaji revealed that she was just 13-14 years old then and had even shot for a few scenes. However, she was replaced overnight, without being informed even. The reason- she was too thin for the role!

Well, we are glad that she did not lose hope. She went on to debut opposite Raj Kapoor in Sapnon Ka Saudagar. It was from this film itself that she got the name 'Dream Girl', that has stayed on even today.
