'Kedarnath’ Is ‘Satyam Shivam Sundaram’ With New Age VFX; We Bet You Didn't Notice The Similarities So Far!

After the trailer of the film Kedarnath released, a lot is being said about the magnanimity and the sheer scale of it. Sara Ali Khan is debuting with this Abhishekh Kapoor directorial and she is paired opposite actor Sushant Singh Rajput. The film is based upon the catastrophe that shook the northern part of our country. It would depict the 2013 flash floods which took place due to a cloudburst in the Kedarnath area of Uttarakhand.

However, the similarity between this Sushant-Sara starrer and the yesteryear’s Zeenat Amaan-Shashi Kapoor starrer, RK Films’ Satyam Shivam Sundaram are more than glaring.

It is like the entire film is a rip off of the Raj Kapoor directorial, right from the beginning to the end! Wonder why no one noticed it?! (Especially because it is so apparent)

Let me delve into the nitty-gritties of the two films in question!

A large part of the film Satyam Shivam Sundaram, especially the climax dealt with the huge destruction that happened in a little hamlet due to a dam collapse. The screenplay and the picturisation of the climax dealt with the deluge and utter destruction of the village.

In the film, Kedarnath as well, the climax deals with the flash floods of 2013 that happened due to a cloud burst in the Kedarnath area of Uttarakhand as has already been mentioned.

The entire story of Kedarnath is predictable - more so because of its semblance with the storyline and major nuances of Satyam Shivam Sundaram.

In Satyam Shivam Sundaram, Rajiv (played by Shashi Kapoor) refuses to acknowledge that he is the father of the baby; Rupa (played by Zeenat Amaan) is bearing. He accuses her of being a prostitute in front of the whole village which strips her of her honour. She is devastated also because of the death of her father who succumbs to a heart-attack because of the fiasco that transpired! Later that night, a fuming Rupa comes to Rajeev’s dwelling and curses him saying, “Dil Ke Tootne Ki Awaaz Nahi Aati  Babuji, Lekin Usse Zalzale Aa Jaate Hai, Aasmaan Phat Jaate Hai, Duniya Tabah Ho Jaati Hai.” And she leaves. While in the background, all the thunder and lightning have already begun which acquaints the viewer with the impending doom; and then - the scene then CUTS TO a dark cloud laden sky, lightning flashes and torrential rains…
