Koena Mitra Faces 6 Months Jail Term! Here’s Why...

It has just been a few days that Koena Mitra had hit the headlines. The former Bollywood actress and model was a part of Musafir, that had the famous track Saki Saki. Yes, Koena is the original ‘Saki Saki’ girl, who was not very happy to learn that the song, that is still fresh in our minds, would be remixed, even though she had faith that Nora Fatehi would do a terrific job like she did in Dilbar.

Well, Koena has hit the headlines once again and this time, the reason isn’t really pleasant. The actress has landed herself in trouble and is facing a jail term of six months! The reason- failure to repay a loan of 22 lakhs!

A model named Poonam Sethi had filed a complaint against Mitra claiming that she had borrowed the money from the former and had promised to repay it. Later, she had given Sethi a cheque of 3 lakhs, which bounced at the bank! Sethi had sent a legal notice to the actress, but she failed to make any payment.

Hearing the case, a metropolitan court has held Koena Mitra guilty and has sentenced her to six months of simple imprisonment. She also has to pay 4.64 lakh, including an interest component of Rs 1.64 lakh, to Poonam Sethi.

Talking about the matter to a leading daily, Koena said,

“The case is totally false and I have been framed in the matter. During the final argument, my lawyer could not be present in the court and hence my side was not heard and the order was passed without my hearing. We will be challenging the judgement in the higher court and my lawyers are in the process of appealing.” 

Earlier, actor and comedian Rajpal Yadav was also sentenced to jail imprisonment for the very same reason.
