The COVID-19 pandemic has hit the entertainment industry really hard. No new films have released in the theatres for a long time now. People are still wary about watching a film in the theatres. Moreover, even as the Lockdown 4 is in place, the centre hasn’t yet allowed the theatres to open anytime in September. Most of the films are releasing on the OTT and no one knows for sure when the theatres will reopen.

In an interview with Bombay Times, National-Award winning director Madhur Bhandarkar opened up on the OTT streaming platforms versus the theatre debate, he stated since ages, everyone has been watching films only in theatres and that it is a different experience altogether, “We have been watching films in theatres for ages now. The magic of cinema is completely different in the dark theatre when you are sitting with your family, friends and even strangers you have no acquaintance to. That is altogether a different kind of experience. It is sort of a ritual for the movie buffs. If the theatres open, people will surely come to the theatres.”
