NCB Seeks Karan Johar's Explanation Over His Viral Party Video From 2019, Filmmaker Need Not Appear Before The Agency

Filmmaker Karan Johar is the latest Bollywood celebrity to be issued a notice by the NCB. Karan, according to reports, has been served for his 2019 party video that went viral where some top Bollywood celebrities were alleged to be under the influence of drugs.

While Karan has issued a clarification over the video after it was caught in a controversy, the NCB officials now seek to confirm the video’s authenticity.

In connection with the notice sent, an NCB official said, “To check the veracity of the video, the notice has been sent to Johar. We have not summoned anyone,” he said. The filmmaker need not make an appearance at the NCB office but needs to issue an explanation on the video.

In September 2020, Siromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa had filed a complaint with the NCB about the video in question which was directed to the Mumbai Zonal office. He requested a probe on the video alleging that the stars who attended that party where under the influence of drugs.

In a long note shared by Karan on social media on September 25, he had brushed off all allegations of drug use at his party as a ‘malicious campaign’. He had said, “I am reiterating that the allegations are completely baseless and false. No narcotics substance was consumed in the party. I would like to unequivocally once again state that i do not consume narcotics and I do not promote or encourage consumption of any such substance.”
