PM Modi recalled how Kashmir has been a favorite of Bollywood filmmakers and said he hopes that one day international films too will be shot in the region. “Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh have the potential to be the biggest tourist hubs of the world. There was a time when Kashmir was the favorite destination of Bollywood filmmakers. There was hardly a film then that was not shot in Kashmir. With life getting normal in J&K, I am confident that in future, even international films will be shot there.”

Talking about the potential employment opportunities that films would create the Prime Minister added, “Every film will bring numerous employment opportunities for the people of Kashmir. I urge the Hindi, Tamil and Telugu film industries to give priority to Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh for the shooting of films.”

The move to retract Article 370 which granted Kashmir a special status has had many Bollywood celebs reacting. While stars like Kangana Ranaut, Akshay Kumar, Mahur Bhandarkar, Paresh Rawal, and several others lauded the decision, others like Anurag Kashyap and Zaira Wasim weren’t entirely too pleased.

The prevailing curfew in Kashmir also halted the shooting of projects like Alia Bhatt’s Sadak 2 and Sidharth Malhotra’s Shershah had to be delayed.
