Rajkummar Rao A Tough Cop, Bhumi Pednekar A P.T. Teacher In Badhaai Do; Director Promises 'Explosive Chemistry'

Ayushmann Khurrana and Sanya Malhotra starrer Badhaai Ho is turning into a franchise after the grand success of the 2018 original. The sequel to the film, Badhaai Do starring Bhumi Pednekar and Rajkummar Rao has already been announced and has the anticipation building. Harshvardhan Kulkarni who will helm this new family comedy has finally let out some details about the project and has us excited.

Badhaai Do is the first time Bhumi and Rajkummar are being paired together on-screen. Harshvardhan tells Mumbai Mirror that Rajkummar will play a tough cop while Bhumi will be a P.T. teacher in the film who hopes to play handball at the national level someday. “Their characters are unique in that they incorporate comedy, certain goofiness and display some quirks. I could see only Raj and Bhumi playing them. And I’m confident that the explosive chemistry between them will combust on screen,” the filmmaker added.

Badhaai Ho as a film was about a couple in their fifties who get pregnant it leading to an amusing and awkward situation in the family especially for their two grown up sons. Talking about what Badhaai Do is bringing to the table the filmmaker shares, “We’re also tapping a big social issue with this film. It’s too early to reveal details. All I can say is that Badhaai Do is as much a family entertainer as Badhaai Ho, only the world we’re creating as Badhaai Ho, only the world we’re creating is becoming more diverse. It moves from a small town to a bigger one and then, on to something else. There’s a lot of colour and drama.”

The cast and crew of Badhaai Do will begin shooting for the film in January 2021.
