Richa Chadha Reveals If She Will Agree To Settle The Defamation Case If Payal Ghosh Apologises: Actually Would Have If …

Richa Chadha has taken the legal route to seek justice after Payal Ghosh brought up her name in a Me Too allegation she levied on filmmaker Anurag Kashyap. The Fukrey actress slapped a defamation suit on Payal Ghosh which is still to see its logical conclusion in the High Court.

Speaking to journalist Barkha Dutt about the whole matter Richa speaks her mind about how the case has affected her mental health and also expressed disappoint in the National Women’s Commission stating that despite making a complaint before Miss Ghosh about being harassed she has not yet heard back.

A few days ago Payal’s lawyer told the Bombay High Court during the hearing of the case that comments against Richa were made innocently post which the court asked her to issue an unconditional apology. However, Payal in a tweet stated, “I am not apologizing to anyone. I have not wronged nor have I given a wrong statement about anyone. I just said what @anuragkashyap72 told me.”

Commenting on Payal’s recent refusal to apologise the Gangs of Wasseypur actress sates, “I don’t think you can flout an order given to you by the High Court and I don’t think that the honourable court will take very kindly to think kind of flip flopping. First you it was an innocently made  comment which is not the case because she slandered my reputation and commented on my appearance which was deeply misogynistic and deeply ignorant. I think if you want to look respectable and not look foolish the thing to do would be to honour the court’s verdict.”

With a settlement hearing on the horizon, Richa tells Barkha whether or not she will not see her case through or if an apology would suffice, “It actually would have if that was the case because I did some research and a few months ago Miss Ghosh had put out an article saying she never imagined her lifestyle would be so bad and that she was broke. It is not my intention to earn money from this because what we are claiming as compensation is the minimum from the Bombay High Court based on whatever bracket it comes under. Rs. 1 crore is basic when you go for a defamation case like this. So I am not chasing money here, however, the settlement hearing is now on the 12 [of October] and it would bode well with everybody involved to read the court order, I repeat read it carefully.”

With the court order already in Richa’s favour it will now be decided on Monday, 12 October how the case eventually settles.
