Salim Merchant Backs Sonu Nigam's Claims Against Music Labels, Says 'There's Definitely Favoritism For Certain Artistes'

Sonu Nigam took to social media a few days ago starting the insider-outsider debate in the music industry after Sushant Singh Rajput's death and claiming the two music mafia who control the business alone decide who will and who will not sing. The video went viral and was followed up by another video of his threatening producer Bhushan Kumar not to mess with him. In the video, the singer is seen talking about favoritism in the music industry. He goes on to state that the newbies are not encouraged, they are not allowed to flourish.

While the battle between Sonu and Bhushan Kumar rages on with the latter's wife Divya Khosla Kumar posting an 11 minutes long video responding to threats, the musicians from the industry are supporting Sonu's claim about the music scene. After Adnan Sami and Monali Thakur now Salim Merchant has spoken on the matter asserting that what Sonu is saying about music labels is all true.

He told Hindustan Times, “It is not just the singers the composers are also going through a tough time. The record label he is talking about has certain music directors and singers they work with. There are certain artistes they have signed. There is definitely that favoritism for certain artistes and composers, which these labels work with.”
