Sanya Malhotra recalls how her father said ‘Bol do tumhe hum bohot maarte hai’ in an attempt to cook a tragic story for a dance reality show

Sanya Malhotra has proved herself to be an actress par excellence. She has played a varied range of roles in a very short span and proved herself to be talented, capable and bankable. She has also opened up many a time about the point in her life where she wanted to just participate in a dance reality show, because dance is her passion. However, she was not selected, since she did not have a difficult backstory or a sob story. Now she has opened up about how she sat with her parents and discussed a difficult back story so that she gets selected.

Talking to Anaita Shroff Adjania on her chat show, Sanya recalled how her friends would cook up stories to be able to get selected in a reality show. So one day, she sat with her parents to decide on a premise that she can use to get selected. She revealed, “Papa kehte hai, ‘Bol do tumhe hum bohot maarte hai, dance karne nahi dete, tum sadak pe jaa ke karti ho practice’ (My father suggested that I say that my parents were unsupportive of my dance, would beat me up and I had to go to the streets to practice). But obviously, it didn’t work out. Aisa lag nahi raha tha ki jaa ke bolungi toh main khud ko bhi convince kar paungi. Toh baaki logon ko kaise karungi ki (It sounded so unconvincing to me so how could I convince others) that actually happened.”

It was then that she decided to be an actor instead. We are glad that happened, otherwise we wouldn't have had the delight of watching a performer like Sanya on screen.
