Shilpa Shetty Reveals Nobody Took Her Seriously Back In The 1990s; Calls Dhadkan A ‘Game-Changer’

Shilpa Shetty is one of the most iconic Bollywood actresses of the 1990s. She made her debut with Abbas-Mustan's thriller Baazigar, co-starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, in 1993. Shilpa became a fan favorite, won awards and accolades for her performance and was signed for three films. Well, in a recent chat with Neha Dhupia in her show No Filter Neha, Shilpa revealed that back then there were two types of actresses- the very good ones who would get all the films and the ones who were typecast in glamorous roles.

Shilpa shared that she was in the latter, and nobody took her seriously to offer her the role of the main protagonist. The beauty shared, “The game-changer for me was 'Dhadkan' where Dharmesh (director Dharmesh Darshan) really stripped me off all that glamour and actually kept the glamour but he wanted it all covered. So funny enough, he was the first to tell me that ‘I want you to look glamorous but in an Indian outfit’.”

She went on to add, “That changed the entire perspective of people and that film went on to become a huge hit and then I did a lot of films after that where there were meatier roles but, honestly I didn`t care, for me, it was just work and I was really young then.”

Shilpa recently wrapped up the shoot of her upcoming film Nikamma, co-starring Abhimanyu Dassani and Shirley Setia. Much to our delight, the actress has another much-awaited release lined up, titled Hungama 2.
