Sonu Sood On Helping Migrants Reach Home: “I Came To Mumbai Without A Reserved Ticket, I Know What Struggle It Is”

Sonu Sood has become the messiah for migrants who have been stuck outside their hometowns. Imagine the plight of these people, who has a hand-to-mouth-existence and a family to care for, stuck jobless. Neither do they have enough money to pay for rent or even food, or means to go bback home, due to the lockdown. When even the government failed to help, Sonu Sood reached out to these people, asking for their phone numbers and arranging for vehicle to make sure that they reach their destinations safely! In fact, even Union Minister Smriti Irani lauded his endeavour.

Talking about why he has been on the forefront to help the migrants, the Dabanng actor told TOI, “ I was a migrant, too, who came to Mumbai with a lot of dreams. When I saw photographs of their sufferings and read heart-wrenching stories of how they are walking thousands of kilometres without food and water, it reminded me of my early days. I first came to Mumbai by train, without a reserved ticket. I stood by the door and slept in the space next to the washroom. I know what struggle is.”

In fact, his entire family and some members from the film industry are by his side and helping him reach out and support those in need better. He has a helpline number as well where the migrants can reach out to him. He added, “When I get a call, my wife notes it down and the kids make a list of who will go in which bus. Rohit Shetty and Tabu are in touch with me. Farah Khan calls me every day to check if I need any help. She also volunteered to offer drinking water to these migrants.”

Well, Sonu seems to be super determined to send each one home. The actor, who sometimes end up working even 22 hours said that he will not rest till the last migrant reaches home. That’s who we call a true hero!
