The poster of the upcoming film Panipat, starring Arjun Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Sanjay Dutt has just been released and the director Ashutosh Gowariker has also announced the arrival of the historical drama on social media. This will be the first time Arjun, Kriti and Sanjay would be working with the director and also with each other. While we are also excited to for the film, here are few reasons why the film would be important in the career of all the three cast and the director himself.
Recently he has been in the news after the desmise of Sridevi and people have liked the way he has been the pillar of support for dad Boney Kapoor. However on professional level, Arjun is in dire need of a major hit. His last two releases Half Girlfriend and Mubarakan made profits but got a lukewarm response from audience. In fact, his last major hit was 2 States which came out in 2014. A lot, thus, is at stake for Arjun Kapoor. Additionally this will also be the first time he will be a part of a historical drama.
Just like Arjun, this will also be Kriti’s first foray into the genre of historical dramas. Though her film Raabta had elements of it, we all know how that ended. So far Kriti has been going through a success streak but the genre of historical drama has rejected even major stars like Salman Khan’s Veer before and has also brought career defining success for some. Thus, Panipat could either be Kriti’s career defining success or a hiccup in her success story.
Except for PK, Sanjay Dutt has not had delivered any hit in quite some time now. The star’s personal life has gone through all kinds of troubles and controversies due to his run in with law and his last comeback Bhoomi tanked at the box office. Thus, Panipat being a hit is of paramount importance to him to keep his flag flying in Bollywood.
The director who gave us films such as Lagaan and Jodhaa Akbar is all set to direct Panipat. Although historical dramas have been his forte, the last couple of films he directed, namely Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Se, What’s Your Rashee and the colossal catastrophe Mohenjodaro has put a major dampener on his historical drama success. Thus Panipat really has to work for the director to bounce back in the game.
