Top-10 Hits Of 2019: War, Kabir Singh, Uri, Bharat Lead The Show; All Four Akshay Kumar Films Feature In The List

It was a remarkable year for Bollywood with a record number of 100 Crore Club hits. With Good Newwz achieving this feat as well, 2019 has gone down as a year with as many as 17 films going past the century mark. While each one of these has emerged as a success, here is presenting the Top-10 biggies.

War - 318 crores

2019's biggest grosser has turned out to be War. Though there were major expectations from the film which was pitched as battle royale between Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff, not many would have touted it to emerge as the top money spinner of the year. However, big screen feel, slick production values, presence of two top stars and mind blowing action did the trick.

Kabir Singh - 278.24

This one threw a major surprise. Shahid Kapoor hadn't scored a solo 100 Crore Club film in the past and with Kabir Singh he actually came close to hitting a triple century no less. The film took a huge start and then continued to grow from strength to strength with every passing day. The hullabaloo around its content only enhanced its hype to result in an all time blockbuster.

Uri - The Surgical Strike - 244.20 crores

Never before has a film opened less than 10 crores on Friday and then stayed solid enough to hit a double century. However, this is what happened with this Aditya Dhar directed film that started with a score of 8.20 crores and then just didn't pause before it went past the 200 crores milestone. The Vicky Kaushal starrer continued to roar for a much longer duration after that.

Bharat - 211.07 crores

Eid release Bharat was expected to be a 300 Crore Club blockbuster. Even though the film opened quite huge [42.30 crores], the momentum didn't quite continue for long. The Salman Khan-Katrina Kaif starrer had everything going for it with director Ali Abbas Zafar calling the shots. The film saw mixed response and just about crossed the 200 crores milestone.

Housefull 4 - 208.50 crores

The manner in which negative word of mouth and backlash came its way from a major segment of media, it had seemed like Housefull 4 would finish just a little over the 100 crores mark. However, just the opposite happened as the Akshay Kumar led affair doubled up that score to enter the 200 Crore Club. Producer Sajid Nadiadwala's conviction in the subject paid off well.

Mission Mangal - 203 crores

This one had winner written all over it. The core subject of Mission Mangal was quite enticing and a credible cast came together with Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan in this Balki produced film. Director Jagan Shakti did justice to the film and ensured that despite being a sci-fi affair, it had ample entertainment ingredients in there to result in an out and out family entertainer.

Good Newwz - 180 crores+ (expected)

2019 has closed on a winning note with Good Newwz indeed bringing good news for all. The film was carrying great vibes right from the time the promo hit the screens. Moreover, the core content of the film turned out to be pretty entertaining as well and that ensured a very healthy week. The Akshay Kumar led flick is doing great business already and is a good winner.

Kesari - 154.41 crores

With Akshay Kumar and Karan Johar joining hands for Kesari, it was a given that the film would emerge as a massive larger than life entertainer. Based on a true story, it managed to strike a chord amongst audiences. The film opened well, sustained too and then ended up enjoying a lifetime of over 150 crores. That said, the content of the film warranted an even bigger score.

Total Dhamaal - 154.23 crores

A fun comedy entertainer that came right at the beginning of the year, this Indra Kumar directed multi-starrer was hilarious from the word go. Made as a non-stop laughter ride that was primarily designed for the kids, it had slapstick ruling the roost right through the narrative. With Ajay Devgn, Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit joining the franchise, it became even bigger.

Chhichhore - 153.09 crores

A surprise success at the box office, this one would have made its makers pop the champagne even if it did the business that it eventually managed at the box office. After a decent start [7.32 crores], this Sajid Nadiadwala and Nitesh Tiwari film continued to do very good business on a daily basis. For Sushant Singh Rajput, this emerged as his biggest earner till date.
